The Pakistan Cricket Board has fixed the dates for the 12th edition of the Pakistan Super League. HBL PSL 12 will run from Thursday, 18 March to Sunday, 2 May 2027, with all eight franchises returning. PCB made the announcement on Thursday, 8 October 2026, ending weeks of talk about a possible January start.
What PCB Announced
- PSL 2027 will be played from 18 March to 2 May 2027.
- The eight-team format returns for a second season in a row.
- Direct signings, retentions, the trade window and the player auction will take place before the season. Dates will follow.
- Venues and ticketing details will be shared later.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said PSL 11 "showed the world what this league is capable of" and that PSL 12 will raise the bar further. PSL chief executive Salman Naseer said last season changed what people expect from the league and that the PSL intends to meet those expectations in 2027.
How the Decision Was Made
The PSL Governing Council, with the owners and representatives of all eight teams, met in London on 1 September 2026. The window was not settled there, so PCB went back to the franchises for their preferences. Around 1 October, reports said PCB had agreed in principle to a 19 March start and a 2 May final, pending consultation. The final announcement set the opening day at 18 March.
January vs March: The Debate
The league's broadcaster, Walee Technologies, wanted a January window. Its argument was commercial: advertisers spend most of their budgets during Ramadan, and an early season would help sponsorship. Most franchise owners preferred a post-Eid window, as in 2025 and 2026. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, so a January start would have left little room before the holy month, and knockout games inside Ramadan would have been difficult. Winter fog in Punjab, which affects Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi, was another concern.
What It Means for Fans
- A longer season: 46 days compared with 39 days in 2026, which should mean fewer double-headers.
- Another IPL clash: PSL will overlap with the IPL for the third year in a row. Read our PSL 2027 vs IPL 2027 explainer.
- Schedule still to come: fixtures, timings and venues are not out yet. Follow the PSL 2027 schedule page for the official release.
A Big Season to Follow
PSL 11 in 2026 was the first season with eight teams and the first with a player auction. It ended with Peshawar Zalmi beating debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen in the final in front of a record crowd of 32,461 at Gaddafi Stadium. PCB will hope PSL 12 can match that.
